  1. If using scissors, make a hole in the middle. Cut from the middle to the edge of the base of the plate. Then cut around it. With a circle cutter, insert the pin firmly in the middle of the plate and adjust the blade to cut the bottom out
  2. Cut out 2cm strips of the green coloured paper. Make sure to cut the strips from the paper in landscape form.
  3. One strip at a time, apply enough glue. Insert the strip under the plate, glue side facing up. Glue both edges together.
  4. Press the strips against both sides of the plate so that the strips are not loose when the glue driesMake sure to glue the strips as neatly as you can
  5. Once paper strips have all been glued to the plate. Let it dry completely.
  6. Use the scissors to make small angular cuts to give your christmas wreath a festive look

Instructions 

Print on the normal paper you use to print on documents.

If the templates will be coloured in, make sure to print on white paper. The colouring is to be done before cutting.

Cut out your template.

Begin from the base and fold away from you. Fold approximately 1/2 an inch on either side.

Turn the paper over repeat until you get to the top.

Take a hole punch and punch through all the folds.

This might not be possible if the paper you used is a bit thicker. So you will need to punch holes through the folds 1 or 2 at a time.

So get a pin and pierce a hole through all the folds.

This hole will show you where to place the hole puncher so all your holes are uniform.

Now take your hole punch and place where the pin hole is and punch a hole through.

Repeat this step until you punch holes through all the folds.

Now insert a paper straw through all the folds and unfold to make your accordion paper Christmas tree.

Attach the paper star and stick it to the top of the tree.

 If you have a different coloured craft foam or coloured paper, you could trace the paper star on the foam or paper and cut out a star shape.

Fold the red paper in half.

Fold the green paper in half (horizontally)

Draw a line from corner to corner. (Draw from the folded corner)

Then cut on the line

Cut parallel slits at a slight angle from the folded edge and ending at 1/2cm away from the opened edge.

Then unfold the paper

 

Fold up all the triangles by gently but firmly lifting up the slits upward.

This is the Christmas tree that goes on the red cardstock paper

Apply glue to the back of your Christmas tree and stick on the red cardstock paper.

Cut out a star shape from the gold craft foam using scissors or a star shaped craft punch.

  • Toilet paper roll
  • Green cardstock paper
  • PVA glue
  • Craft foam/ coloured paper
  • Craft punch

Instructions

Print out the 3 different sized templates on the green cardstock paper. Print free templates here.

Use the scissors to carefully cut out the printed templates.

Using the X as a guide, cut slits using a craft knife on all three of the templates.

 

Fold all four wings of each pyramid.Ensure you fold into the printed side.

This way you have a plain surface when fully assembled.

Now fold the side tabs. This is where the glue is to be applied.

Now fully folded and creased.

Apply glue to both side tabs one side.

Glue the side tabs to one side without tabs.

Repeat the process and complete the assembly of the pyramid.

Repeat the steps for the remaining two templates.

Take the smallest pyramid and gently push the slits inward. Apply glue around the slits.

Now gently place it on top of the mid-sized pyramid.

This will be smaller of the remaining pyramids.Do the same for the largest (remaining pyramid).

Apply glue to the base of the assembled pyramid and insert the toilet roll.This will serve as the tree trunk.

You may now decorate as you please.

You add a decorative or colorful tape to the base of the trunk.

Add texture to the trunk. You may use craft stones. Pearl effects hardening glue was used here.

Use craft punch to cut out little stars on foam or paper to decorate.

How to make Cardboard Puzzle For Kids

To make this homemade puzzle craft will need

Materials

Cardboard

A4 paper (card stock preferred)

Craft knife

PVA Glue

Scissors

Used coloured paper (optional)

Instructions

Cut out two 15cm by 15cm square card board. You may draw the square on the cardboard using a ruler before cutting

Take one cardboard cut out and draw a 12cm by 12cm square making sure it is centered.

Highlight the 4cm and 8cm mark on all sides of the square and draw lines from end to the other.

Number all the boxes.

Using a craft knife, carefully cut out the number 12cm by 12cm square and put aside. You should now have the numbered cutout and a frame

Apply glue to the PVA glue to the frame and stick it on to the other cardboard. Make sure you are gluing the back of the cut out.

 

Now let’s decorate the frame. You can decorate with tiny paper strips as pictured. (optional). You could also decorate with craft stones or paint the frame in bright colours.

Print any image of your choice on the A4 paper. Make sure the image is 12cm by 12cm.

Now cut out the image.

Apply PVA Glue to the other side of the cardboard with numbers.

Stick the image on the cardboard and let it dry.

Trim 0.5cm of each side  to allow for free movement of the puzzle pieces.

Turn to the numbered side and cut out each puzzle piece using a pair of scissors

Arrange the puzzle pieces in the frame.

Make a game of it. Show a picture of the puzzle to be solved armed with the puzzle pieces.

To make it more challenging, you could cut out 3cm by 3cm squares making 16 puzzle pieces.

How to Make Paper Sun

This paper sun craft is a great one to make at home or in the classroom.

Orange coloured A4 paper

Yellow coloured A4 paper

Make Your Own Paper Sun

 

Take the orange coloured A4 paper and fold from the top left to right. Forming a  right angled triangle.

Make sure the folded sides are neatly aligned.

 

Cut the extra paper just below the triangle.

Now fold the triangle in half by bringing the top of the triangle to meet the bottom left side.

 

Divide the triangle into 3 equal segments.

If the entire base of the triangle is 9cm, use a ruler and pen to highlight the 3cm, 6cm and 9cm mark

Then draw a line from the base to the tip on the first and second mark.

Another way is to use a protractor.

Place a protractor on the closed tip of the triangle.
Make sure the tip is exactly at the centre. ( 90 and 180 degrees will be on both sides)

Use a pencil to place a dot at 120 and 150 degrees angle.

From the dots made, draw lines connecting the tip of the triangle to the base.

 

Turn the triangle with the tip side down.

Fold the left edge to the right making sure to align where the markings are.

Repeat for the the right side.


Cut along the horizontal edge as pictured

 

Take a pen and draw a V shape from both corners as pictured and cut out the V shape.

Unfold to reveal the rays of your paper sun.

Take the yellow coloured paper and cut out a circle smaller than the paper sun rays you just made.

You may use a compass to draw a circle on your coloured paper and then cut it out with scissors.

Or you could use a bowl or any perfectly round object to draw the circle.

Glue the circle to the centre of the rays.

Add two googly eyes, draw a nose and a mouth.

Your paper sun can be used a teaching or learning in your preschool or kindergarten class.

Try attaching a small string with glue and hanging on the classroom wall as decorative piece.

Make this DIY paper crown as craft activities for kids at parties or fun school crafts.

It is an especially fun and cool crafts for kids when they get to the decoration stage. Giving them paper crowns to decorate will make them love the project as they have decorated it themselves.

How To Make a Princess Crown

Take a square paper and lay it flat on a surface

Fold as accurately as possible in half

As shown below, fold the left and right hand sides to me meet in the middle

Fold the tip at the bottom to touch the base of the triangle

Repeat the above step

Repeat one more time. It should look like a yatch.

Create 7 more of these.

Apply some glue to the right side of one and glue to the left side of another piece.

Make sure the sides showing the folds are all one the same side.

Glue all eight pieces together.

Glue the sides of the chain together and form a crown.

Punch out 8 circles using the craft punch.

Stick gems on them and place spikes of the crown.

3D Easter Egg Card

Looking to make a simple easter themed craft?

Why not handmade and personalise a 3d easter egg card.

It is very simple to make with basic materials and is suitable for all ages.

The 3d egg is the centrepiece of the greeting card.

It can then be embellished with stones, shape cut outs, buttons and any craft accessory you fancy

How to make 3d Easter Egg Card

Materials needed

  • Paper stock cards (at least 2)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch (optional)
  • Craft stones (optional)
  • Buttons (optional)

Instructions.

Print the  3d easter egg template on the card stock paper. You may print the egg templates on one side and the patterned background on the other side. The Blue egg and blue pattern as well as the Pink egg and pink pattern can be printed in the resource library

Cut out the egg shapes using a scissors. For a 3d egg that pops, you will need at least 5 cutouts.

Take a plain card stock paper and horizontally fold in half.

Glue on an egg cutout right in the centre of your folded paper.

Take the remaining egg cutouts and fold in half as pictured.

Glue the folded halves making sure they are glued on, the right side up  (ie the domed side up).

Repeat the step and glue the remaining two halves.

Decorate and embellish with craft accessories in any way that takes your creative fancy.

As pictured, you may use adhesive gold foam letters or even a felt pen for words.

Craft stones is a cheap way to embellish any craft project.

 

Another great way to decorate your card is with colourful buttons and hole punched shapes.

Paper Mache Recipes & Techniques

Paper mache recipes come in variations but nevertheless are very easy to make and with easily accessible ingredients.

Paper mache is simply the craft of modelling with pieces of torn paper glued together and often shaped using moulds of all kinds, painted and varnished.

Basic supplies needed for paper mache

  1. Newspaper : It is easily accessible and is perfect for paper mache. It has a grain that makes tearing in one direction. Tear paper 1 inch in width and long enough depending on your project.
  2. Glue : A choice of PVA glue, flour paste or wallpaper paste
  3. Moulds :  Dishes, inflated balloons are just examples of moulds that are frequently used.
  4. Paint : White emulsion for at least two coats on the fried project and acrylic paint for any decorations.
  5. Sandpaper : To smooth the dried surface of your paper mache project before coats of paint
  6. Paint brush : Different types of brushes to either apply paint or to decorate with acrylic paint
  7. Varnish : to give an excellent finish to your paper mache project

Methods of making paper mache

You may decide to use strips of paper and glue or making your paper pulp.

  • Paper and glue method. Tear as many strips of paper as needed, apply glue and lay the strips. Smooth each strips ensuring there are no air bubbles.
  • Paper pulp method. Tear strips of paper into pot and simmer for half an hour. Using a blender, blend into a pulp. Drain any excess liquid if required. When ready to use, add some PVA glue.

Paper mache recipes

There are a few choice of glues or adhesive for paper mache projects.

Flour paste recipe

Supplies needed

  • All-purpose flour
  • Salt
  • Water

Directions

  • Mix one cup flour with one cup of water
  • Add one tablespoon of salt
  • Stir until smooth and no more lumps.

PVA Glue

If the PVA glue you have is undiluted, you may use as is. However if it is undiluted, it is 2 parts glue and 1 part water.

Wallpaper paste

Wallpaper paste if thick can be thinned with water with a little salt added.

Liquid Starch

Liquid starch can be used as is.

Paper mache tips to remember

  • Considering multiple layers of paper strips if the project calls for it. This will prevent it from cracking open.
  • Allow sufficient time for drying. Let the paper mache dry out completely before proceeding to the next stage.
  • You may use sandpaper to gently buff the dried surface before applying paint.
  • Apply at leats two coats of emulsion paint.
  • When done with coats and paint decoration, apply a a coat of varnish
  • If using moulds, sometimes they would need to be held together to hold the shape that you want. Try using masking tape or glue from a glue gun
  • In humid weather conditions, try using a less water in your flower paste or use other types of glue.
  • If applying strips to a balloon, try sitting it atop of a small bowl, large sellotape or something cylindrical.
